As Halloween approaches, many of us enjoy carving pumpkins and creating festive Jack-O-Lanterns. However, one common challenge is keeping squirrels and other animals from turning your masterpiece into a snack! As your trusted real estate agent, I want to share some simple tips to protect your pumpkins and keep your porch looking great throughout the season.
Here are a few tricks to keep the critters away:
Use a Spray Repellent: You can find animal-safe sprays at your local store, or make your own with a mix of vinegar, hot sauce, or peppermint oil. Squirrels and other critters don’t enjoy the strong scent!
Hair or Pet Fur: If you have a pet, place some of their fur around your pumpkin. The smell of a predator might deter animals from approaching.
Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly: Rub a layer of Vaseline on the outside of your pumpkin. The slippery texture makes it less appealing for animals to nibble.
Use a Fake Pumpkin: Consider using faux pumpkins for decoration. They look great and are critter-proof!
Move Your Pumpkin Indoors at Night: This is an easy solution to prevent overnight snacking.
These simple strategies will help ensure your Jack-O-Lanterns stay intact all Halloween season!
